A Few years ago it was suggested that we should all put ICE (In Case of Emergency) with a phone number to contact in our mobiles so that emergency services would know who to contact on our behalf should we be incapacitated.

In 2005 that was simple and easy to do, phones were simple devices with a simple locking mechanism. Today’s touchscreen phones are fully programmable with your own lock code. Great if your phone is stolen or you want to keep it away from prying eyes but useless if someone needs to open it in an emergency.

I ride a bike a lot and go out with very little kit in to the lanes of Cheshire, however I’ve always got my iPhone with me to measure the ride I’m on (kinetic app). I would hope that someone would try and find my phone on me if i had an accident.

Of course its locked, but on the home screen I’ve created a photo that gives people a number to call In Case of Emergency and also my name. This is also great if I lose my phone or leave it somewhere, this will enable the finder to call the number to let someone know its been found.

Here I’ll show you how i did it on my iPhone using a free app…I’m assuming at this point you do use phone locking for security. If you don’t, go to SETTINGS>GENERAL>PASSCODE LOCK to set it up. – brilliant to prevent unauthorised use of your phone by anyone, including the kids!

1.) Using a free app like Tweegram enter your contact details. *Don’t enter your own phone number!

2.) On Tweegram you can choose different backgrounds and styles by pressing the icons at the bottom.

3.) When you’ve  created a photo you are happy with press Share and chose the 5th icon from the left to save it to your photo album.

4.) exit this app and open your photo album and find the picture. Click the icon at the bottom left of the screen to open up a list of options.

5.) Click “Use as Wallpaper”

6.) Move the picture around the screen so that it sits clearly in the window. Click Set.

7.) Choose “Set Lock Screen”

8.) shut the phone using the power button at the top. click the home button and your lock screen image should appear.

NB – you could also use the built in Notes App, take a picture of the screen by pressing in and holding the lock/power button and pressing the Home Button and then carry on from number 4.

Audiomint web design and wordpress training Manchester helped Tim Freke build the Mystery Experience website. We’ve had some great comments from our clients recently. Today we got this one from Tim Freke, Standup Philosopher and Best Selling Author;-

‘Working on my new website with Dave Murat has been a great experience and I am delighted by the results. I have found Dave to be always helpful and extremely resourceful in the quest to create the right website to represent my work.’  Tim Freke – bestselling author,

You can have a look at the website we helped create for him which he’ll now update and run himself at www.themysteryexperience.com

and you can see what others have said here

It can cost you a lot if you insult customers.

A Gym manager in Greater Manchester recently lost his job when he called a potential new customer an idiot in an email that he’d clicked “Reply All” to following a membership enquiry to two branches of a Gym.

Thinking he was only replying to the other  branch the manager he called him an idiot. The report on the Manchester Evening News website says that the sender did try and retrieve the the email but without success.

If you’re a Gmail or Google Apps user there’s a handy little addon in the Labs section (under Settings) called Undo Send. It gives you a button and short period of time to retrieve the messsage before it’s sent. Particularly useful if you’ve included the wrong person or even forgotten to enclose an attachment, or sent the wrong photo ;)

To find it, go to the cog icon on the right in Gmail and then click settings. Labs is a tab across the top. There are some great other add ons there too – Canned Response is another one.
